Job Smeets works on coloring the SUV’s cabin with RAL 7035 or Light Gray which helps eliminate any strong undertones of warm or cool shades, and revamps the entire interior so the cabin’s neutrality matches the exterior. Inside Firmship’s Land Rover Defender, Job Smeets’ Light Gray color palette synchronizes with the SUV’s white exterior, allowing materials and additional components of any kind or color to visually complement the chosen shades, including metals, concrete, glass, and wood.

Aside from the Light Gray color, Job Smeets of Studio Job and Firmship apply a metal lacquer to the Land Rover Defender XS SUV, the one dubbed the strongest and toughest in the world. This same lacquer is used on bulldozers and metal public telephone boxes in the US, and it provides the vehicle with a textured finish. ‘If you touch the Firmship Defender, you do feel something strong but silent,’ says Firmship. Looking at the robust wheels, Job Smeets and Firmship opt for revised versions of the original wheels designed by Land Rover for the Defender XS, retaining the vehicle’s roots while giving it a modern look.

Inside Job Smeets and Firmship’s Land Rover Defender XS, the SUV has a three-zone climate control that gives separate temperature control to the driver, front passenger, and second-row passengers. Rear passengers can control their own temperature too with a dedicated button and apply it to the entire seat row. Control options include automatic defogging, pollen and air filters, smog detection, and automatic recirculation. These enable the vehicle to detect air quality and recirculate it for purification. The ionized air filter, toggleable if desired, also helps improve interior air quality by removing allergens, viruses, bacteria, and odors from inside the SUV.
