A rare 1958 Land Rover Series 2 reworked by Sean Wotherspoon and Stuff by Spot was unveiled during Monterey Car Week. With its playfully color-blocked exterior, the project is a continuation of the duo’s collaboration, and follows their recently completed Porsche 2.7 RS project (see designboom’s coverage here).

Originally built in England and delivered to an engineer in Canada in 1959, the left-hand-drive 2.25 petrol Land Rover has remained with its first owner for more than four decades. The vehicle eventually returned to the UK in 2002, and remarkably, it had never been road-registered. Today, it is believed to be one of only six left-hand-drive Series 2 models in the UK, and among just three that still retain their original chassis.

Earlier this year, Jimmy Howson of Stuff by Spot acquired the vehicle and restored it in Essex between March and July before shipping it across the Atlantic. The build preserves as many original panels as possible while enhancing the truck with practical upgrades. This way its authenticity is balanced with a renewed driving life.

a 1958 land rover series 2 reinterpreted

For the colorful restoration, designer Sean Wotherspoon’s sensibility lies in allowing the character of the Land Rover to surface rather than overlaying it with dramatic interventions. The upgrades — a fresh engine and gearbox rebuild, Wolf alloys, a CarPlay-enabled dash, and a custom rear seating setup with built-in speakers — are carried out with the team at Stuff by Spot to reflect a measured approach. The result is a vintage utility vehicle that remains true to its heritage while receiving refinements that allow it to function in contemporary contexts.

Where the Porsche 2.7 RS reinterpretation emphasized vivid color and surface detail, the Land Rover instead relies on its inherent rarity and provenance as a foundation. Wotherspoon’s contribution frames the vehicle as an artifact and machine to be driven.

Presented alongside the Porsche during Monterey Car Week, the Land Rover affirms the partnership between Wotherspoon and Stuff by Spot as one centered on rethinking icons of automotive design. The work acknowledges its heritage and layers new elements without overwhelming the original or erasing time.

Range rover presents time-travel installation in Milan

During Milan Design Week 2025, Range Rover presents its first-ever installation with a scenography that travels through time from the 1970s to 2025. Set at the historic Piazza Belgioioso, visitors see a 25-meter monolith in the center of the square, adorned with a gold Range Rover motif, when they arrive. Behind it, there’s a gold cube housing the installation for Futurespective: Connected Worlds. A raised platform welcomes them. Once the doors open, the visitors wander into the first leg of the experience, the one that the California-based studio NUOVA staged. Here, the present time filters away, portaling the visitors to a Range Rover car dealership in the 1970s. It’s not an inspo choice for the brand to choose the specific year. It is their founding date, the year it all began for the manufacturer.

During our interview with Will Verity, Range Rover’s Brand Design Chief, he tells us that the idea of time travel for the Milan installation with NUOVA pivots back to Design Miami 2024. ‘We were presenting one of our new bespoke vehicles there, and Nuova was also presenting a 1971 capsule. Then, we started talking about how 1970 is such an important moment for Range Rover, being the founding date, and the 1970s in general. We then talked about how we could do something together where we celebrate Range Rover’s heritage in its past, but also celebrate its future, where we’re moving to, and have this time travel moment between these two time zones, using the vehicles as props within this scenography that celebrates both,’ he says.

1970s interiors with classic vehicle in original bodywork

The design studio NUOVA captures the 1970s setting of a Range Rover dealership. The moment the doors open, red carpet covers the entire flooring. A classic Range Rover vehicle in its original olive green bodywork greets the visitors. Its windows have no tint, making its seventies interior and raw-like leather cabin skin so visible from the outside. On the left, a wall-to-wall mirror expands the space, creating a moment of distortion: what year is it? Varnished wood clothes the room alongside rich, tactile textures. NUOVA brings over a series of custom furniture pieces: an oxblood red sofa, a circular version of their Enzo table in white Carrara marble, desk chairs.

It’s not the 1970s corporate setup without a fish tank, archival artifacts, and original sketches from the Range Rover design process. A song from the era plays in the background, muffled by a static that’s reminiscent of the radios crooning in the wild afternoon or intimate dinner. The smell of old dollar bills and leather sprays across the room, courtesy of Grand Rose, an incense-like fragrance. It’s an interactive theater, too. Actors wear 1970s workwear and British fashion by LA-based luxury garment atelier L’Equip. They converse with the visitors, asking them questions and answering inquiries, living through the past without an idea of the modern world outside the wooden room.

range rover installation
the first room revives a Range Rover car dealership in the 1970s

Future filled with pillars of mirror and rebuffed car

Then, it’s time to head to the future. There’s a single door separating 1970 and 2025. One of the actors announces the departure from the past. They thank the visitors, and as soon as they open the door to the next space, white light, ambient sounds, and a custom cool scent, Wet Stone, flood in. The time travel that Range Rover imagines for its installation in Milan has begun. In this capsule, every furniture piece from the past, as well as the decorative objects and the previous room’s earthliness, disappears. What remains is the use of mirrors.

Instead of extending from wall to wall, it comes through as pillars. They stand equally spaced from one another in an open circle, ceremoniously surrounding the rebuffed classic Range Rover, blessing the modernized take within a contemporary ground. White stones pile below the visitors’ feet, constructing the amorphous floor. A strong white beam showers upon them from a large box of light on the ceiling. The ambiance feels pared back, away from any objects that dominate the wood-cladded space of the 1970s setup. Realization dawns: this is how studio NUOVA and Range Rover interpret the future.

range rover installation
objects reminiscing the 1970s Range Rover dealership form part of the installation

It’s not easy to maintain the heritage and history of Range Rover as a brand, and Will Verity reflects on this very challenge. There have been several generations of Range Rover to date, he says, but the vehicles’ proportions still keep their build familiar and traditional. The brand design chief admits, however, that they’ve refined the designs to their essence, cutting off unnecessary visual excess that has dominated their language in the past.

‘For us, the translation, what we’re trying to say, is that when you see the 1970s vehicle, it has a design language within the product itself. When you move to today, our vehicles share the same DNA, the same philosophy, and the same design language, but it’s looked at through the lens of modernism, through the lens of contemporary design practice. There is the same visual language within our products today, but that’s taken through everything we tried to create, going through the lens of trying to be as productive as possible, putting modernity at its heart,’ he tells us.

range rover installation

It has taken Range Rover a lot of time before they produced an installation marking their history and documenting the facets of their vehicles that remain the same. When asked about this postponed timeline for entering into the installation industry, Will Verity says that the brand is going through a transitional moment. ‘We’re moving from Land Rover as a brand to having four distinct brands within Range Rover, Discovery, Defender, and Jaguar as part of the family. Because of that, we need to find new ways to have a voice independent from the wider group, stand on each brand’s own two feet, and find ways to communicate,’ he shares with us.

Now that the brand has had a taste of the artistic, scenographic, and experiential flair during Milan Design Week 2025, the Range Rover family plans to continue exploring this path. ‘I think we’d like to,’ says Will Verity. ‘We’re continuing our relationship with Design Miami in the US. We’d love to come back every year and show here as well in Milan. It’s been a great learning opportunity to come and do our first one. There are a lot of takeaways that we’d like to evolve over the next 20 years.’

jaguar type 00 car appears in paris for the first time

A real-life Jaguar Type 00 car appears for the first time on the streets of Paris during the 2025 fashion week. First unveiled at Miami Art Week 2024, the concept and non-production car drives around the French city, confirming that ‘any questions on if the car is real were soon dispelled,’ says Jaguar. The model faithfully follows the concept design, from the elongated bonnet to the fastback roofline and boat-tail proportions. The car manufacturer says that the Jaguar Type 00 car in Paris represents its return to the philosophy of founder Sir William Lyons.

Its French Ultramarine paint is based on a pigment linked to French arts and culture since the Renaissance. Jaguar’s material team works with in-house paint specialists to develop the finish. The new paint includes a custom pigment with metallic elements to create a satin-like surface. Paris is the location of Jaguar’s new brand store in the Golden Triangle of the 8th arrondissement, connecting the manufacturer’s automotive work with the fashion industry. The Type 00 and the new store in Paris are part of Jaguar’s rebranding plans.

travertine stone and Kvadrat textiles for the interiors

The Jaguar Type 00 car in Paris features butterfly doors and a pantograph tailgate, which are native to the concept design. The interior includes three linear brass elements, with a central 3.2-meter spine supporting floating instrument panels and seats. The materials used include travertine stone and Kvadrat textiles. The non-production car comes with three totems made of brass, travertine, and alabaster. These totems are stored in a compartment accessed from the exterior. They can be placed in the center console to adjust lighting, sound, and graphics.

For the exterior, the Jaguar Type 00 car in Paris flashes a flush upright front with the car manufacturer’s new typeface. There’s also a full-width taillight with horizontal graphics. For the rebranded design, Jaguar embeds brass ingots etched with its signature leaper into the design. These ingots deploy from a flush position to reveal rear-facing cameras. The overall design of the Type 00 car in Paris reflects Jaguar’s approach to electrifying their future models.

Studio enemy’s jaguar type 00 and tesla cybertruck in one car

Studio Enemy combines Jaguar Type 00 and Tesla Cybertruck into a single concept car named ‘Jaguar Cybertruck.’ From the silhouette to the sleek boot design, the concept vehicle captures Jaguar’s Copy Nothing design language and Tesla Cybertruck’s sharp points and edges. Studio Enemy’s founder Joe Slatter is the mastermind behind the car design, and he says that Jaguar Cybertruck reimagines the Tesla truck as a ‘modern, functional, and versatile vehicle’ using the Type 00 color palette and line designs.

Studio Enemy completes the vehicle with Jaguar’s London Blue color. The front design retains the strip headlamps of Type 00, while the overall width is narrower, drawn from Tesla Cybertruck. The turbofan-like wheels are from the Jaguar Type 00, while the triangular hood and central body come from the Cybertruck. The trunk space still follows the design of the Tesla vehicle, while the rear part pulls its design from the modern Jaguar model. Studio enemy notes that the project has no direct and related affiliation to Jaguar and Tesla.

Modern Concept vehicle with stainless steel exoskeleton

Jaguar takes the world by surprise when the car manufacturer reveals Type 00. Before the unveiling at Miami Art Week 2024, they teased the fans with a clip featuring models wearing vibrant clothes and staged in a pink background, which later on unfolds as the color of the concept car. Divided fans express their two cents across social media platforms, implying the rebranding as either a step away from the heritage of the manufacturer or a bold take to a new design direction. Still, the Jaguar Type 00 has left enough impression for viewers to remember its look.

It’s a similar impression given to Tesla Cybertruck and its proportions. Before being rolled out, the truck has experienced timeline delays in production, but at last, some models have been delivered to their owners. It features a stainless steel exoskeleton and shatter-resistant armor glass, which are absent in the Jaguar Type 00. At least with Studio Enemy’s concept car, the design team shows how the two models combined can look like.

jaguar shows off rebrand at miami art week 2024

Jaguar has embarked on a bold journey to reclaim its founding ethos: Copy Nothing. This vision, set by founder Sir William Lyons, was reborn in Jaguar’s rebranding, unveiled to the public at Miami Art Week 2024. The centerpiece of this transformation is the Type 00 – a near-production car that embodies the iconic British marque’s Exuberant Modernism philosophy. Alongside the concept car, three British artists interpreted the rebrand through one-off artwork on show throughout the week.

jaguar’s rebrand reinterpretated by artists

Miami, with its vibrant culture spanning art, architecture and more, was an intentional choice for the public debut of the Jaguar rebrand and Type 00 concept car. As the epicenter of the art world during Miami Art Week, the location provided the perfect stage for the concept car’s unveiling and a curated series of gallery spaces showcasing original works by three emerging British creatives.

Miami celebrates sports and creative disciplines in a way few cities can. Its energy aligns with Jaguar’s emphasis on colour and artistic expression,’ explains Richard Stevens, Brand Design Director at Jaguar Land Rover, in an interview with designboom.

Theory of Color by Ibby Njoya

three ‘disruptor’ british creatives

The installations – Theory of Color by Ibby Njoya, Strikethrough Convention by Campbell Addy and Yagamoto, and Theatre of Chiaroscuro by Patience Harding – captured the essence of Jaguar’s reimagined identity and Exuberant Modernism philosophy. Each space invited visitors to journey through themes of evolution, duality, and sensorial experiences. This mirrored the emotional, transformative experience the British marque aims to evoke with its new design.

Strikethrough Convention by Campbell Addy and Yagamoto illustrates this transformation and self-discovery. Through a sequence of movement and reflect, screens and mirrors challenge traditional norms with its video and lighting – just like Jaguar’s bold refusal to conform. Visitors are immersed in a visual evolution, highlighting the role of creative disruption in redefining what luxury and design can mean in a modern context.

Strikethrough Convention by Campbell Addy and Yagamoto

This transformation – challenging norms and redefining luxury design – is central to Jaguar’s self-discovery. Art has been integrated into every facet of its identity. This includes a direct influence on vehicle design, from the color and finishes to even the interior architecture to heighten the interplay between light and shadow. The journey of color – or Theory of Color by Ibby Njoya – blends shades to create a maze of exuberance. The installation empowers guests to see, hear, and feel colors.

The satin finishes, paint colours, and even the interplay of light and shadow were deeply influence by their creative visions,’ Richard shared about the British artists’ relation to the Type 00’s debut.

through a sequence of movement and reflect, screens and mirrors strikes through convention

Patience Harding, one of the artist collaborators, contributed organic textures, light, and digital perspectives that blur the boundaries between physical form and digital artistry in the Theatre of Chiaroscuro. The Type 00 sits in the middle of the room, surrounded by four rock formations. Each rock molds a corner of the car on one facade, with all its other sides rough. The result is an installation that serves as a canvas for textures and emotions, elevating the central car beyond a mode of transport to a modern art piece.

Initially, there was some scepticism, but the energy and vision these artists brought to the table transformed our approach at Jaguar,’ admitted Richard.

Jaguar’s creative process extended beyond the design studio, fostering a dialogue between artists and corporate teams. Campbell Addy’s infectious enthusiasm was particularly pivotal, galvanizing the teams and setting a precedent for future projects. This synergy exemplifies the British marque’s belief in balancing emotion and rationality, creating a brand strategy that deeply connects with a younger audience.

Theatre of Chiaroscuro by Patience Harding

The iconic British marque’s transformation doesn’t stop with its now fully-electric vehicles or Miami Art Week. Jaguar is reimagining retail spaces as immersive environments that reflect local cultures while staying true to its core identity. These luxury brand stores will debut in global cultural capitals, beginning in Paris’ 8th Arrondissement. Drawing inspiration from reductive architectural principles, these spaces will use light, color, and shadow to weave Jaguar’s narrative into their surroundings, offering customers a multisensory experience that extends beyond the showroom.

Harding’s reimaging of the Type 00 blurs the boundaries between physical form and digital artistry

Our focus is on working with artists, not just as collaborators but as co-creators of the Jaguar world,’ concluded Richard Stevens, Brand Design Director at Jaguar Land Rover, to designboom.

The artistic partnerships shown during Miami Art Week 2024 are just the beginning. This vision extends to future vehicles, retail spaces, and even broader cultural projects. By amplifying British creativity and embracing regional nuances, Jaguar is poised to redefine luxury not as exclusivity but as an expression of identity and artistry.

JAGUAR TYPE 00 DEBUTS AT MIAMI ART WEEK 2024

The early anticipated Jaguar Type 00 concept car made its world premiere on the first day of Miami Art Week 2024. With a backdrop of art galleries, installations, and design showcases, the event attracted a global audience of creatives, including designboom on-site. It brought the curtain down on the British marque’s rebrand, revealing their future for luxury electric vehicles and starting the ignition for their artistic exploration to be shown throughout the week at Art Miami and Miami Design District.

JAGUAR’S BOLD REBRAND LEAPS NEW IDENTITY

The famed Jaguar has a new leap. The British marque’s rebranding journey turned heads as it launched the philosophy to ‘Copy Nothing’ two weeks before Miami. This ethos promised a luxury design brand who produced electric-only cars. The Jaguar Type 00 embodies this transformation, rich with ‘Exuberant Modernism’ – a key mark of the brand’s new identity. Inspired by the mastery of light seen in James Turrell’s work as well as that of other artists, the concept car translates space, color, and perception into an artistic, sensorial experience that just happens to be on four wheels.

reminiscent of the E-Type, the Jaguar Type 00’s exterior redefines the norms of EV design with its elongated bonnet

JAGUAR COPIES NOTHING WITH CONCEPT CAR DESIGN

The Jaguar Type 00 concept is built on a new dedicated JEA architecture, designed from scratch to ensure cutting-edge electric performance. This platform aims to offer engaging handling, luxurious comfort, and a range of 478 miles per charge. While Type 00 remains a concept, its production version – a four-door GT – will launch in late 2025, advancing the brand’s vision of luxury electric mobility.

like the upright front, the rear’s full-width taillight with horizontal graphics marks its modern identity

Reminiscent of the E-Type, the Jaguar Type 00’s exterior redefines the norms of EV design with its elongated bonnet, sweeping fastback roofline, and distinctive boat-tail proportions. The satin Rhodon Rose finish, nicknamed Miami Pink, accentuates its smooth yet dramatic surfaces, while a flush upright front with Jaguar’s new typeface and full-width taillight with horizontal graphics both mark its modern identity. Another highlight includes brass ingots etched with the iconic Jaguar leaper, which deploy from flush to reveal rear-facing cameras.

brass ingots, etched with the iconic Jaguar leaper, deploy from flush to reveal rear-facing cameras

Inside, the Type 00’s design continues the boldness of its exterior. Dramatic butterfly doors and a ‘pantograph’ tailgate sets the scene for this meticulously crafted interior. The cabin is defined by three linear brass elements, including a central 3.2m-long spine supporting floating instrument panels and seats. A blend of travertine stone and Kvadrat textiles creates a warm, tactile atmosphere.

The concept car’s experiential focus is extended and epitomized by its three unique totems, crafted from brass, travertine, and alabaster respectively. Stored in a power-operated compartment accessed from the exterior side, these totems can be inserted into the center console to customize the interior’s ambient lighting, soundscape, and graphics. Each material’s inherent properties influence the cabin’s mood, enabling occupants to transform the role of the car to tailor their sensory journey.

As a centerpiece of Jaguar’s presence at Miami Art Week 2024, the Type 00 stands in the spotlight of the ‘Copy Nothing’ installation in Miami Design District, where luxury fashion meets architecture. At Art Miami, ‘Jaguar. Exuberance’ curates an exhibition of emerging artists exploring the brand’s new visual identity through original works. Follow along with designboom as we continue Jaguar’s artistic journey during the week.

Supercat by TWR is a super-GT car inspired by Jaguar XJS

TWR unveils the Supercat, its recent Super-GT car whose design elements are inspired primarily by the Jaguar XJS as well as some of the car manufacturer’s racing vehicles, including the XJR-9, XJR-15, and the XJ220 supercar. First previewed during the summer of 2024, the Supercat has finally lifted off its veil to reveal its long, sculpted, carbon-bodied bonnet at the front, which conceals a supercharged V12 engine, and a structure has been reinforced with an integrated tubular steel framework. The engine is developed in-house by the TWR engineers, and it can produce up to  660bhp and 730Nm of torque.

For the body panels of the TWR Supercat, the design team opts for carbon fiber, and the Super-GT car ends up with a 9.3 percent reduction in its total weight of 1,605 kilos compared to the original Jaguar XJS, which weighs 1,770 kilos. The vehicle features rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox, as well as the option for carbon ceramic disc brakes, fully programmable traction control, launch control, and five distinct driving modes, each of which can enable drivers to tailor the car’s dynamics to suit various road and track conditions.

flying buttresses from jaguar xjs to TWR supercat

Before stepping inside the TWR Supercar, the exterior can already draw attention with its singular steel color and sculpted look. The sides bear punctuated and embossed lines, and the expanded front has grilles on the bonnet for ventilation and to add aggressiveness to the Super-GT car’s overall look. The star of the show may be the rear, as the upper tail peaks like a surfer’s wave. These design elements hark back to the Jaguar XJS’ profile. They both share the signature silhouette, flying buttresses, and front-end graphic, and TWR remains faithful to its long-standing relationship with the Jaguar marque by staying true to the design features that make it distinctive.

For the Super-GT car, TWR also reshapes the Jaguar XJS’ flying buttresses so they’re optimized for airflow from the body to the rear haunches. They also flatten the floorpain and couple it with a fully re-engineered rear splitter, so the Supercar can handle the additional generated downforce. Because of this adjustment, the exhaust system has to be repositioned from the rear to the side of the car. Yes, the TWR Supercar car is a bit more lightweight than the Jaguar XJS, but no, it’s width isn’t the same because the engineering team increases that of the Super-GT’s from 1,793mm to 1,975mm. This allows for the TWR Forged Monoblok wheels, sized at 18 inches at the front and 19 inches at the rear, to fit, also bigger compared to the 15-inch ones on the original XJS.

Leather-covered interiors inside the super-GT car

Inside the TWR Supercat, it’s a leather fest. The carbon fiber-backed leather seats are available in a contemporary design or a ‘heritage’ option, referencing the original XJS seat louvres, and most of the interior’s design is covered in leather, from the door panels to the steering wheel and dashboard. This is TWR’s way of paying homage to the Jaguar XJS while modernizing it by installing a fully digital multimedia interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Even the suspension and steering settings are easily adjusted using an intuitive toggle interface.

The Supercat has been engineered by a team representing some known names in motorsport, including McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Williams, and Renault F1. The group is led by TWR director and co-founder Fergus Walkinshaw, whose father, Tom Walkinshaw, drove Jaguars to victory in the European Touring Car Championship, Spa 24 Hours, and Bathurst during the 1980s. TWR’s pool of orders for the Supercat is now open, and the Jaguar XJS-inspired model is only limited to 88 units worldwide, an honor to Tom Walkinshaw’s famous win with the XJR-9 at Le Mans in 1988. The first delivery of the model is expected in the summer of 2025.

Kingsley re-engineered introduces defender D90 and D110

Kingsley Re-engineered has a knack for versatility, at least with their recent 4×4 Defenders. Owners have a range of roof choices, including a hardtop, a panoramic glass roof, an open top with a ‘bikini’ cover, or a full-canvas covering. Inside the Land Rover vehicle, they can opt for heated seats and tire monitoring systems. Audiophiles can consult with the company if there are specific speakers or audio enhancements they want to add to their Defender.

A petrol-powered V8 engine and brake kits are also available for further customization. Apple users may appreciate the wireless Apple CarPlay integrated into the refreshed Land Rover vehicle. Unveiled at the Salon Privé Blenheim Palace Concours on August 28th, 2024, Kingsley Re-engineered introduced its Defender vehicle in both D90 and D110 configurations. The D90 is on display at the event until August 31st, 2024.

Land rover with electronically controlled suspension

For the interior of the 4×4 Defender, owners can choose between the original trim or Nappa leather and Alcantara accents. The D90 even features sandstone leather with Spinneybeck leather weave seat centers, which may be exclusive to this model. When Kingsley Re-engineered says they focus on the exterior color combinations of the Land Rover vehicle, they mean completing all the paintwork on-site. This means that the production, painting, and building of the vehicle are done within a few hundred yards of each other, which might be a first for the company.

If the owners wish, they can opt for custom ceramic and PPF coatings for a durable finish. The vehicle has an electronically controlled suspension that adjusts how the car handles bumps and uneven terrain to maintain a smooth ride and good control, regardless of the road conditions. Even the brakes have been upgraded to include larger front calipers—the part of the brake that squeezes the brake pads against the wheel to stop the car—so the Defender can stop more quickly and safely.

All-terrain tires for surfaces like dirt, mud, or pavement

The Kingsley 4×4 Defender comes with all-terrain tires, designed to handle various surfaces like dirt, mud, or pavement. It comes with 18-inch lightweight wheels in anthracite color. They are strong and light enough to take on off-road paths. The company has upgraded the Land Rover vehicle’s engine cooling system with a full alloy radiator and electric cooling fans. These can help prevent the engine from overheating, especially during tough driving conditions and warmer seasons, ensuring that the vehicle maintains its optimal performance.

There are a few differences between the D90 and D110 configurations. The D90 has a shorter wheelbase—or the distance between the front and rear wheels—for more compact and easier maneuvering. Because it’s smaller and lighter, the D90 is great for both city driving and off-road adventures, especially in places where agility is important. Despite its compact size, it can still accommodate between two and six people, depending on how it’s configured.

The Kingsley Re-engineered Defender 110 has a longer wheelbase, making the interior of the Land Rover vehicle more spacious. The D110 can accommodate more people, fitting between two and nine seats. This makes the model more ideal for larger groups or families.

Because of its longer wheelbase, the D110 provides a smoother ride, which may be more comfortable on longer trips. Traditionally, the Kingsley team uses a restored, original engine and transmission setup—called the powertrain—for their vehicles. But for the D90 on display at the Salon Privé event, they equipped it with a 4.2-liter V8 engine.

<yoastmark class=

This upgraded engine allows the vehicle to exceed 100 mph, and it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 9.5 seconds. The engine produces 220 bhp and 360 Nm of torque at 3,250 rpm. Kingsley Re-engineered also offers the option to upgrade the gearbox, with four to eight speeds, as well as to install Chevrolet LS3/LT1 V8 engines, which are high-performance engines often used in sports cars.

The new Kingsley Defender series, available in both D90 and D110 configurations, is now available to order for worldwide delivery. Prices start from 140,000 GBP (plus VAT), with all builds continuing to be handcrafted at Kingsley’s Oxfordshire-based headquarters.

BEDEO launches Reborn Electric: Icons with car kit

Mobility company BEDEO launches Reborn Electric: Icons, a program composed of a retrofit kit that can convert classic cars like the Land Rover Defender into all-electric vehicles with motors inside the wheels. In fact, an old Land Rover Defender was BEDEO’s first testing platform, fitting the classic car with a whisper-silent battery-powered powertrain, 75-kWh battery, and a standard 22 kW on-board charger that achieves 100 percent charge in five hours.

Electric Land rover defender vehicle

The first Land Rover Defender to use BEDEO’s retrofit kit can run up to 247 km (153 miles) and can be fitted with an optional 50 kW fast charging capability, which can fully recharge the Defender in 90 minutes. Osman Boyner, founder and CEO of BEDEO, says that none of those who have ventured into making classic cars run on electric power through EV conversion and utilizing in-wheel motors tap into weight reduction and engineering refineries.

‘Through our Reborn Electric: Icons program, we are committed to maintaining the original car’s kerb weight, charm, and driving dynamics while ensuring easy maintenance and delivering the benefits of electrification,’ he says. For the Defender, and other models to come, this can entail zero tailpipe emissions, zero noise, and the preservation of ‘the nostalgic, classic driving experience we all cherish, now brought into the 21st Century without sacrificing its essence or adding unnecessary, bulky weight,’ adds Osman Boyner.

Preserving classic cars’ look with modern feel

BEDEO’s Osman Boyner says that its in-house technology allow the drivers to tailor their overhauled, electrified cars to their exacting specifications, all the while preserving the vehicle’s history along the process of converting cars to electric power. ‘We’re enabling the clean and efficient transportation of the future, with technology that has only been preserved for large OEMs and brand-new vehicles, until today,’ shares Osman Boyner. BEDEO is looking into extending the range of classic cars to convert into electric vehicles with in-wheel motors for its Reborn Electric: Icons program. As of publishing the story, there are no lineups yet, but ‘iconic’ vehicles are being considered.

range rover sport autobiography review

As the world’s most popular car category, it is easy to forget our day-to-day SUV really stand for Sports Utility Vehicle. This class is built to go anywhere and do anything, quickly and effortlessly – or even go above and beyond, as stamped by Land Rover. In a nod to its origins, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography emphatically and unashamedly puts the sportiness back into SUV, as discovered by designboom on a road trip to North Wales.

puts sport back into sports utility vehicle

Acclaimed as the most dynamic model yet, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography adds even more power to its renowned luxury performance. An Ingenium 3.0-liter 6-cylinder twin-turbocharged petrol PHEV hybrid boosts its exhilarating statistics: its 8-speed automatic transmission, 510HP, and 700Nm of torque accelerates the car from 0-60mph in 5.3-seconds and up to a maximum of 150 mph (242 km/h). Its power is effortless, gliding past others on motorways and powering along uphill climbs in Snowdonia with just a tap on the throttle. The Autobiography badge is truly a mark of distinction.

the Ingenium 3.0-liter 6-cylinder twin-turbocharged petrol PHEV hybrid delivers 510HP and 700Nm of torque

Several different driving modes allow the driver to tailor performance to conditions or mood, switching from eco or comfort on long highways to dynamic on country passes when needed. The key for the smooth performance, though, is the handling pack that combines All-Wheel Steering and Electronic Active Differential with Torque Vectoring. Dynamic Air Suspension introduces switchable volume air springs – a Range Rover first – with twin-valve active dampers for ultimate agility, control and composure at all speeds and all environments.

its technology ensures ultimate agility, control and composure at all speeds and environments

luxury design, inside and out

Its dynamic luxury is not just felt in its performance. Like every model from Range Rover, all aspects have been carefully designed by Gerry McGovern and his creative team. A muscular stance and taut surfaces personifies the power and agility of the machine within, but beyond its instantly recognizeable profile and proportions – in Giola Green color on our drive – its modern details establish a more defined, athletic character. Sportiness is reflected in stealth-like front grille, digital LED lighting, and double-aperture lower bumper. The most notable feature is the sculpted, uninterrupted tailgate, accentuated with LED graphics. A shoulder line connects the two ends, so smooth in finish that even the door handles are hidden flush with the body.

the car’s dynamic luxury is felt in its design as well as performance

The same dynamic luxury continues in the interior of the car. Sculpted seats are equipped with massage and heating features, both nice perks in windy, wet North Wales. The cockpit is widened by the full-width console, only disrupted in the center by a curved touchscreen that slopes towards the passengers. Sustainable, lightweight fabrics in Light Cloud and Ebony options line the console and doors, creating a two-tone contrast with the natural black veneer dashboard and screens.

Moving towards the back seats, the cabin opens up with a near-full-length skylight, flooding the interior with natural light and giving all passengers a deep connection to the outdoors. The powerful Meridian Sound System pushes the signature sound around the cabin, said to be the most powerful system ever fitted to a Range Rover Sport. 29 speakers, a subwoofer and 1,430W of amplifier power creates a curated cocoon of entertainment for passengers that is only disrupted by the exhaust in the dynamic driving mode. Further rearwards, the loadspace in the boot hits the utility criteria at the plentiful 647-liter number.

Proved in North Wales, the Range Rover Sport Autobiography joyously and luxuriously rebalances sportiness and utility. From its spacious loadspace to its refined exterior design and interior comforts, the SUV never forgets its exhilarating driving experience first of all.
