Maison Malapert Designs Frivole Restaurant’s interiors in Paris

Situated within the Maison des Champs Elysées hotel, Frivole is a new restaurant designed by Maison Malapert in the heart of Paris’s Golden Triangle, close to the Champs Elysées, Avenue Montaigne, and the Grand Palais. The project integrates the hotel’s discreet green courtyard with references to couture, creating an environment that bridges natural elements and the surrounding fashion context.

The interior is characterized by warm amber tones that shift in intensity throughout the day, subtle at midday and more vibrant in the evening, when the restaurant transitions into a bar and event space. Materials and fabrics, sourced from Parisian fashion houses, introduce a couture sensibility, while custom-designed furniture and controlled lighting contribute to a refined yet adaptable atmosphere.

Warm Amber Interiors Define Maison Malapert’s Frivole design

The design team at Maison Malapert organizes the spatial layout around a central bench that anchors the room and faces the garden. To the right, a marble bar accommodates cocktail service, while the dining area extends toward more intimate seating options, including two tent-like niches inspired by Napoleonic references. A DJ station is integrated into the center of the space, supporting the venue’s dual role as restaurant and nightlife setting.

Architectural details include built-in mirrors, wood paneling, and integrated lighting that establish rhythm across the walls. At the rear, guests access the courtyard terrace, an enclosed garden outfitted with striped umbrellas and lattice patterns that echo the winter garden theme. Throughout, striped and patterned textiles extend the dialogue between indoor and outdoor references, reinforcing the connection to couture and the fashion district. Maison Malapert’s design balances function and atmosphere, creating a space where dining, leisure, and performance coexist within a setting that reflects both the history of the hotel and the cultural identity of its surroundings.

inside the nice Pam Hotel by michael Malapert

Tucked in the heart of Nice, the Pam Hotel by French architect Michael Malapert pays homage to the French Riviera’s open-air lifestyle, with a Californian twist. Playing with neon lights, pastel colors, vintage decor, and urban culture, the new hospitality destination offers the chance to live life as we all imagine it could be. And nobody enters the Nice Pam Hotel by chance; a waxed pink concrete ramp acts as an extension of the street, guiding guests and inquisitive passersby to the reception desk. ‘It is a playground and a fabulous setting, both at the same time,’ comments Malapert. Spanning five floors and hosting 102 bedrooms, the project exudes real freedom with its rich program — from enjoying a coffe or light lunch at Pamela’s cafe, to taking a break at the Boho Lounge, going for a walk in the Palm Garden, or even grabbing a latte or a hot dog at the bar with its windows open onto the grounds.  pam hotel in nice by maison malapert 1

Feet in Nice, head in california

While set in Nice, the Pam Hotel by Michael Malapert (see more here) loudly celebrates California’s urban street culture. Starting from the reception, the space reveals giant backlit neon lights, walls decorated with longboards, and vintage accessories that reference the 1970s. The profusion of colors – yellow, pink, celadon – is visually pleasing and offers a sense of escape. The diner-style lights dramatize the space while the furniture, with its references to LA and Mediterranean culture, blends colors and natural materials, including tiles and earthenware. The vegetation offers a contrast, with plants that thrive on the Mediterranean light peeking out of cracks and corners.

hotel lobby

For a long time, people have held very cliched ideas about the city of Nice […] wrongly confused with its neighbours Cannes or Monaco,’ explains the architect. ‘On the contrary, it is a young, dynamic city that is expanding rapidly, with its own authentic way of life, thanks to the sea, the palm trees and the outdoor lifestyle. […] We wanted to give the city the gift of a vibrant and dynamic hub that would serve as meeting point for the lifestyles that are, right now, the coolest around.’

a hotel buzzing with rich programs

Across five floors, 102 bedrooms at the Palm Hotel in Nice offer the chance to relax after a day spent dabbling in the water, gliding around on rollerblades, or walking the streets. While the size varies (from 16.7 sqm to 27 sqm), all rooms are designed to be bright and comfortable, with many hosting terraces and outdoor furniture to enjoy the evening air or sunbathe in privacy. Guests also get to enjoy vivid sunsets while sipping an aperitif on the Quai des États-Unis – one that then bedecks the whole city in an intense pink that is rarely seen elsewhere.

small outdoor terrace

On the ground floor, spaces converge and interlink, expanding the possibilities. Outside, the visitor’s gaze is drawn to a small outside terrace sheltered by white and pink awnings with touches of azure. Inside, the spaces are defined by lighting that is bright in some places and dimmer in others. On the other side of the ground floor, facing an immense skateboard ramp, is a space designed around a grand central bar with a tiled facade and a Californian cafe,  Pamela’s with menu dedicated to classics of Californian cuisine. Like a stage set, the heart of the hotel can host film screenings, karaoke, standup comedy, concerts, or a set by a DJ. But it is also perfect for yoga and Pilates classes at breakfast time, or broadcasts of the big sports events. And for the most intrepid visitors, Sunday brunch can take place in a setting open to the elements.

a multi-experiential space designed by michael malapert

The Delaville restaurant is a historical pillar of Parisian life. Situated on the Grand Boulevard for more than 150 years, it has welcomed a mixt clientele to eat, converse, and celebrate. After a successful transformation in 2000, the owner decided to uplift the interiors by enlarging them and revamping the food and beverage menu to create a multi-experiential space featuring a patio, cocktail bar, brewery, event room, restaurant, and street food area. For that, he joined forces with interior designer Michael Malapert. Together, they revived the spirit of the iconic Delaville, creating new programs and fresh decors for everyone to enjoy.

from cocktail bar to brewery and street food eatery

To access the Delaville renovated by Michael Malapert (see more here), guests first walk into a sunny patio full of plants where they can enjoy a drink under a pergola hosting a mix of chairs, sofas, and long tables. Following the patio area is a dramatic, roomy, and plant-filled glass conservatory that links to all other spaces. Its terracotta flooring and natural-fiber furniture make it an ideal winter garden in the heart of Paris.

On the left, visitors can find an extensive and luminous cocktail bar located in one of the historical rooms covered in gold mosaic. Further inside nestles a micro brewery where the restaurant produces its signature beers.

At the center of the Delaville, guests are welcomed into a dining room furnished with vibrant modern art pieces, armchairs, and sofas — creating a relaxing ambiance to eat and drink. At the back, a historical staircase leads to the first floor hosting the ‘Marguery’, a privatizable space for any event. ‘It recreates the atmosphere of a warm and confidential boudoir,’ explains Michael Malapert. On the right, the ‘Daily’ offers quality street food based on freshly cooked pitas, garnished with kebabs and accompaniments, that diners can take away or eat on-site amidst natural tones, lime plaster, ceramic, and raw wood accents.

michael malapert completes hidden hotel interior in paris

michael malapert has completed an elegant interior for ‘dandy’, a speakeasy hotel located in paris, france. hidden inside a restaurant within the dynamic neighborhood of the halles, the hotel offers a unique experience that projects you inside a modern dandy house. traditional parisian design meets intricate artworks, while a vast materiality palette integrates leather, velvet, solid wood, and terrazzo elements, to generate a living environment that is visually intriguing, yet cozy and comfortable at the same time.

a place for parisians to mingle

in true parisian lifestyle, hotel dandy by michael malapert (find more here) features a protected patio that allows you to be in contact with the energy of the city. this elegant terrace, composed of wicker gatti chairs and an art deco facade, is also the space that introduces guests to the living environment to the hotel. the first thing that visitors encounter is the bar, which follows the traditional language of parisian cafes — there is a zinc countertop and little brass columns, but with a modern twist. the bar serves as a coffee shop in the morning and transitions to a cocktail bar in the evening. the remaining ground floor space is dedicated to a mediterranean restaurant.

the further you go into the hotel, the more comfortable the seats become — chairs, then armchairs, then sofas. you’ll find different types of seats to suit different times of the day and clients. in this space you can eat, work, have a meeting, take a drink with friends, take a coffee to go. hotel dandy is formed as a place where guests and parisians people mingle.

refined dandy interior

the twist and the surprise of the dandy lobby is the cozy living room, where there’s the check-in desk, welcoming guests before they proceed to their rooms. graphic carpets, velvet curtains, and various artworks highlight the modern dandy house theme of the hotel.

a window between the sleeping area and the bathroom gives a sensation of space to all the bedrooms. they are all designed like small parisian lofts. the bed is dramatized by a headboard combining two shapes, ‘one is feminine and one is masculine,’ the design team explains. meanwhile, black decorative braid on the walls further accentuates the refinement of a dandy interior.

‘chouchou is much more than a four-star hotel, it’s a new mecca for bon vivants’ malapert says. the building includes 63 bedrooms, a guinguette bar and a market that offers fresh produce from the seas ( la mer à boire) and dry land (la grande bouffe). in addition, a stage for live performances adds zest to the place with its artistic programme. a backstage area with three rooms that can be privatized is available for events of all sizes, with a customizable layout that can host up to forty people seated. lastly, in the basement, chouchou offers three private pools for its guests.

michael malapert has designed all private rooms and common areas to showcase french craftsmanship and delicate simplicity. the 63 bedrooms are divided into several categories with features: balcony, baths, large shower, breathtaking views of the opera, etc. they all feature beautiful parquet floors, artistic winks, great bedding, beautiful cornices.

the open social spaces of the hotel, such as the guinguette bar, are formed to encourage interaction within an informal environment adorned with contemporary, pop culture elements. with the central stage adjacent to the bar, visitors can enjoy the performances while enjoying a meal or a cocktail. overall, the ‘chouchou’ is a unifying and polymorphic plural place, which is lived from morning till night, a place in full swing.

michael malapert’s ‘BAM karaoke box parmentier’ has unfolded a miami tropical festive artsy universe at the heart of the 11th arrondissement of paris. opening its doors in june 2017, the art deco-inspired venue has a large and luminous cocktail bar, as well as 9 private karaoke rooms each offering a unique ambience. the bar is thought to be a walk in the midst of lush vegetation and between neons of the acclaimed ‘ocean drive’. each karaoke box is identifiable by the neon lights that give clues about the theme of the room.

the ‘BAM karaoke box’ street frontage in paris offers a preview about what is going on inside

french based michael malapert‘s approach for the interior architecture is inspired by the art deco style. many black marble tables and green velvet banquettes are perfect for enjoying the original and refreshing cocktails of the menu. the key to success relies upon: high-end equipment in all rooms, a huge international catalog regularly updated (15 000 titles), a careful design and privacy preserved thanks to perfect soundproofing. all of these features make ‘BAM karaoke box’ a unique experience during a couple of hours with friends, colleagues or with family in the salons with capacity from 6 to 30 people.

in this project, interior architect michael malapert proposes a new vision of the parisian cafe, a symbol of its city. malapert chose to give the cafe the feeling of a holiday house inside and out, giving an unexpected twist to the design. ‘la maison bleue‘ mixes the norms of a restaurant, a bar and a house, and achieves a genuine look that offers a new experience to both locals and tourists.

the rattan bistro chairs is one of the elements that the restaurant keeps from the traditional cafes

the exterior of the restaurant resembles a holiday house due to the color choice, a shade of blue that is hardly found in the city. in contrast to this unfamiliar feeling, the rattan bistro chairs in light blue and white bring you back to paris. as you enter ‘la maison bleue’ the first thing you’ll notice is a bookcase accompanied by childhood pictures of the owners, a detail that gives a commonplace sensation. while some tables have typical restaurant chairs, others are paired with rocking chairs and armchairs.

michael malapert paris cafe
the bar at night has a guinguette feeling

the neon signs, the bar, and the open kitchen are more strongly associated with a traditional restaurant, as well as the raw material structure that is sometimes left visible. inside this place you forget where you are, if inside a house or a cafe, in a city or a vacation spot; and this is the allure of  ‘la maison bleue’ — a hybrid presented as a coherent package that gives a strong sense of identity.
